Enemas with Reprop can be performed easily and independently, either while sitting on the toilet or lying on your back. With an irrigator, independent use is not possible for many people. An irrigator is hung relatively high above the patient. This creates a gradient and thus a hydrostatic pressure, through which the liquid can flow into the rectum. The pressure, and therefore the flow rate, is very low and cannot be influenced by the patient. The system is very prone to malfunction. The inflow of liquid is often obstructed, either by constipation in the rectum itself or by kinks in the supply tube. Independent use is not possible for many people. They are dependent on assistance from another person.
